See the funny thing is we can not admit it and we are not socialists because there are still enough Americans out there that believe in Jeffersonian politics and the Fundamentals of this country.
now then
Medicaid and Medicare are failing miserably and already there are calls to privatize them = Capitalism
Welfare, food stamps, and Social security(one you forgot) are programs failing miserably and most likely within the next 20 years will disappear completely or be turned over for state control.
Earned income credit, Child tax, and Property tax. Well these are things that are needed to bring money into the government and although I may not agree with taxes the statement is true
There are only to things in this world that will always hold true; Death and taxes.

OK, infrastructure is not socialism in the same sense as welfare and entitlement programs are. Infrastructure is why you pay taxes. It's different than paying taxes because others refuse to do there part for society. They benefit everyone. They are not programs where the government decides to take money from the hard-working to give to some other group.

To answer the question, we are in a battle of ideologies, some socialist programs exists, and pro-capitalism/ free-market laws also exist. Which side will win out is the question.

It won't. I just heard today that many states have taxes on taxes. State taxes on gasoline includes the federal tax in the price. Thus taxes on tax. My state of Indiana just raised the property taxes but they are the good guys because they rebating part of the tax. Of course the D's defeated a measure that would have done away with the rebate and just lowered the taxes by the amount of the rebate thus making it easier. The politicians want the rebate because they know many, many people will not apply for the rebate not to mention the fact that escrow accounts will ignore the rebate and pay the whole thing. What a socialistic mess that fills the state with money. Ell, there are many people who still have no clue that postage rates went up to .41 cents!!!! Any they are going to handle rebates on property taxes???? Does anyone really believe their politicians are really looking out for the ‘poor’ public? BS.

we have a mixed state. most countries are smart enough to steal the good policies from other forms of government.
we took the good from democracy and the good from republics and made a mixed democratic-republic.

we won't take policies from theocracies and fascist societies because even though they had good stats (strong military, nation pride although it was excessive, more funding for things like the arts, etc).
they accomplished those feats through bad policies.

we've taken good ideas from (American) communism and have made all people equal in the eyes of the law. (although sometimes we don't practice this idea)

we have taken some ideas from socialism.
but most of those ideas are common sense. if you are a citizen you deserve to benefit from the money you give to taxes. you deserve schooling and health care. you should have someone help you up when you are low.

everything we've taken from others makes us a better nation.

Well... just because we have some socialist policies dooes not mean this is a socialist nation. The freedom of Americans to open their own businesses at will is capitalist, so this nation for the most part is still capitalist.

But I do wonder though... is it such a bad thing to have a hybrid economic philosophy?

You mean socialism for the super rich and capitalism for the rest of us??? The last 2 US national elections were run in a way that would make Stalin smile. Down with Dictator Dumbya!!!

well, in many ways it is...

but really... if you've ever been to a place that doesn't have those things... you know, you don't want to live there...

everyone in the Republican party loves to slam even the slightest hint of socialism... but every "western" nation has many aspects of socialism... while many other poverty stricken nations do not...

now, is it a coincidence that many of the more socialist nations are the leaders in the world?

and of course, you have extreme nations that are old style communism that doesn't seem to work either... but just labeling everything socialist as evil, seems odd to me...

Those are just social issues. There are many other factors that have to make us socialist. Just because we have government aid programs (as we should) doesnt make us socialist. I hope you would stop thinking in black and white and realize that life is many shades of grey.
