I'm not even sure if it will fit, but that's why I'm asking here first cause i don't want to take my computer apart and take that annoying heat sink off. that thing is so hard to get back on.

It depends on the type of Celeron. You'd need a P3 Celeron. But why do this; it would be slower than what you've got!

If you want a cheap upgrade, you can probably replace your P3 with a much faster P3 for next to nothing, i.e. 1GHz for $18 -- see http://www.pricewatch.com/cpu/pentium_iii_1ghz.htm

Note that unless your motherboard supports FCPGA2 (many do not) then you have to stick with Coppermine (max 1GHz) and can't use Tualatin P3s (which have more cache and go to 1.4GHz).

This is not as slow as it sounds; a 1.4GHz P3 is usually faster than a 2GHz P4.

If it is too much trouble to take it apart to find out, it is too much trouble to change it.

find the manufacturer of the mobo, and look up the board spec on the internet.
