. . .and if it does not progress, I'm going to be induced tomorrow morning. What am I in store for? I'm scared!

Sorry Stan, I don't eat burritos. Anyway, I'm 3 cm dilated and 100% effaced and his head is totally there. I'm just not contracting normal, at least that I feel. The doctor stripped my membranes today and I've been in quite a bit of pain since. You guys rock! Thanks for the encouragement!

Well first, Congratulations!!! Labor and delivery is so different for everyone, for some it's a breeze and for others, not so much. Personally, I opted for an epidural with all 3 of mine and the pain was tolerable. In the end though, it is truly an amazing experience!!!! Best of luck!!!!

Like everyone is saying, labor is painful, but if you use breathing, massage, and relaxation techniques it should help. The doctor might also administer, some pain medicine if you request it, though keep in mind, pain meds, might effect the baby.. As far as induced labor, from what I remember this is what happens.. You will have an IV, attached to a drip bag with the medication in it that induces labor.. They will probably have a monitor on your belly, which may cause you some discomfort as your belly pushes against it from the contractions. Between the contractions, it will not be painful, and you will be very tired, so you might even drowse off.. ..The nurses will keep checking you to see how far you have dialated, so they will know when you are ready to deliver. The actual delivery will probably be pretty painless, with a feeling sort of like you have to go to the bathroom. The doctors and nurses will guide you through the process of delivery, telling you when to push and when not to, once you have let them know you have the urge to push. .The doctor may have to make a small incision to allow they babies head to pass through, which you will not feel..Once the baby is delivered, you will feel the urge to push again, which is what delivers the placenta.. This will come through painlessly.. After delivery, he will stitch you back up, and it will just feel like a small pin prick or a mosquito bite as he does this. But by that time, you will have your beautiful baby, and that is probably the only thing you will be thinking of. ..

Well first they'll put this long crochet hook type thing inside you to bust your water, then a few mins later the doc comes back to strip your membranes which is him just putting his fingers in your cervix and wiping them around the inside. That should start your labor and if you're not dilating quickly enough they'll give you a drug called pitocin and that speeds up the contractions and makes them harder and closer together. It won't be too bad though if you get the epidural. I've never had one but I've had 3 kids and the last 2 were induced using pitocin. I regret not getting the epidural since I hear there is no pain involved.

I went into the hospital at 11 at night in labor with my son, but I was not progressing; only 1 cm (for 4 total) at 3. They kept me and said the doc would be in at 8 to induce. So I got out of bed and walked up and down those halls, I was determined to do it without pitocin. I dilated to a 8 by six and Riley was born at 8:37 a.m. Don't be scared, I know this can be frightening time( I was scared and I had been through this before!) but your body can do this! Drink alot of water, eat small meals or snack, and walk as much as you can. But do not forget to rest periodically, your body has a lot of work to do. I am sorry I don't have much info about being induced but I hope this helped a little. Best of luck hon!

I've had six children and all are not alike. Don't be worried about tomorrow because chances are, your concerned over things that won't even happen. Each time I thought I had it all figured out....I was wrong!

For me, I know nothing about a pill near the cervix...when induced they simply broke my water....which is nothing and painless. Each time I was told I was in active labor and they might have to induce, it seems my child decided to get down to brass tax and do it on their own without the need except one of them.

Laying down and resting to get sleep sounds like sound advice ... if you do want to be induced. However, the best way to help yourself along is to walk or stay active but not to a ridiculous level. If you are not restricted by your doctor for bedrest, then do as you would on any other day, pregnant or not. You can dust, clean (if the doctor didn't restrick lifting laundry or pushing a vac), and cook meals and do dishes instead of ordering out. In this way you will help the labor progress without pain and in the way that is natural to way it is suppose to be.

Don't ever be scared! This is a wonderful time in life and doctors will be on hand and have done this so many times over and over again. The fear you allow yourself now can actually cause your body to respond in ways you wouldn't want like tensing up. Relax! Enjoy and don't worry about any of the so called pain others expressed....it is quickly forgotten! If not, I wouldn't have gone on to have so many! And I would do it 100 times more if I could.

Have fun and Relax!

I had my first naturally; the 2nd was induced.
Is there a reason in particular they are inducing you?
They induced me because although I was 6 weeks before the due date, I had water leaking and they feared infection.

Anyway..be prepared that your contractions may be more painful and frequent when induced. Also, I was induced at 12am, had him at 8pm..as compared to my first..I went into labor at 4pm and had her 4am..with only 4 hours of painful labor.
I did NOT want an epidural, but it got so bad I did end up getting one, and I have a high tolerance for pain.
Good luck to you, and try not to be scared of what I'm telling you, just be prepared.

I was the same way. I was past my due date by 2 days and the doctors were worried b/c I was gaining alot of weight towards the end and they didn't want her to get too big. I was already 2 centimeters dialated but hadn't had any type of contractions or indications of labor. They admitted me in that morning and gave me Cervidil. It's like a little string they put up in you. It's supposed to help soften your cervix. They gave it to me to me around 7:00 that night and gave me some medicine to help me sleep. They were going to induce me that next morning around 7:00 but I started having mild contractions around 11:00 that night and I couldn't go to sleep. I thought I was just cramping but when they hooked me up to the monitor they realized I was in early labor. They gave me some Staydol and that helped a little but by 3:00 my water had broke and my mucus plug came out. And I had her by 7:00 that morning.
They believe the cervidil had started my labor b/c it tends to do that with alot of women. I'm glad I didn't have to be induced b/c I've heard Pitocin make your labor more intense and painful. If you do make it to the induction they'll just hook you up to the IV w/ the Pitocin and your labor will probably begin within the following 30 minutes or hour. It's normal to be scared but hopefully since you've already began to go into labor it will progress quickly for you.
Good luck and Congrats!

Of course each women is different. You could have your baby in 1 hour or 24 hours. It really up in the air.

You are going to get Potassium through an IV. You will be monitered every hour to see if you progressed. The meds don't hurt. But make sure you get an epidural before you have the baby. 6 cenimeters.
Good luck

If this is your first pregnancy you won't know the difference between natural labor and induced labor. Induced labor, in my experience, makes hard labor come on faster. It is not gradual like natural labor. But labor is labor. It hurts and at the end you have a beautiful baby.

Good luck.
