Some times people abort the baby because of incest, or rape, could imagine living with someone that reminds you all the time of the worst expreince in your life. SOme do it because they are not ready to be parents, and although adoption is an excelent option Most are kids who don't want their parents to know. The only other reason I can think of is health resons, If you are told to abort your child or you might die, It can make that situation a little easier. I would never et an abortion my self but I still believe there are some cases in which an abortion might be the only option.

Abortion happens because:
1) Woman has low-self esteem/worth, & doesn't trust the man.
2) Man has low-self esteem/worth, & doesn't trust the woman.
3) The family (woman & man) are against the unwanted pregancy.
4) The friends/peers make it difficult on the couple.
5) Social issue's: War, famine, Culture, furture outlooks, selfish reasons (jobs), or avoidance of responsabilty.
There all cause people to not want babies. Always start with #1 and then work down the list.

Most times, its a matter of choice...what is better for both the mother and baby at that time. Its a personal choice that is noone's business but the mother to be. Sometimes there is a medical necessity, i.e., mother to be over the age of 35 at high risk for Downs Syndome...better to abort, but again, her choice. Tubal pregnancy: No choice but to abort. The list is endless.
PS I never thought Id say anything disrespectful in this forum, but to Gigglygiraffe: Ive never read anything so idiotic and chauvenistic as your first 3 responses. Altho we all know these assinine answers are purely opinions, they are also very degrading to women. Sorry, but it needed to be said.

Abortions take place in case of rape, incest, underage mishaps, or if there's a threat to the life of the mother. Also, sometimes, when the fetus has a fatal disease. Some women have them because having a child would put the rest of their lives on hold, or because they don't think they'd make good mothers, or because they're unable to support a child. I disagree with these women; they should either use protection or have themselves sterilized, as I intend to do. Abortion shouldn't be used as birth control.

The only reason she really needs is that she doesn't want to be pregnant. The specifics that lead her to that is as varied as the women themselves from monetary issues to concerns about the father or lack thereof to education to unhealthy lifestyle, etc. I can say that I have had condoms fail on me and if I had gotten pregnant from those ruptures, at that stage of my life, I would have likely aborted due to my financial situation at the time...I was a student and working two jobs to pay for my basic bills and my schooling. Having a kid would have meant dropping my education and that was not an option.

Another reason that really hasn't been mentioned here is that some girls do not take responsibility for their sexual lives with making sure that they are on contraception, and then when they fall pregnant, it is no big deal to have an abortion because to them the baby means nothing other than something that's going to stand in their way of having freedom/good lifestyle.
Yes, it does happen. One 17 year old teen I knew, had 2 abortions in these circumstances and still she was irresponsible with making sure she was on the pill/using condoms.

I personally think that being unable to support the child or not wanting a child or this particular one or any other similar reason is not much of a reason since the child can be immediately given up for adoption and a new born baby has the best chance of all age groups to be adopted by a loving family. The mother won't have the child but she can be happy for him/her that he/she is still alive.
The only remaining is therefore that it's in her body and she will do with it whatever she wants irrespective of it being an independent human life form. Although I feel this carries with it a lack of sufficient caring for life. It's brain waves can be detected as early as 54 days from conception.

I knew a couple who had an abortion because it was an unplanned pregnancy, they were too young (18), and neither party wanted to bring a child into the world.

When the doctor says an abortion is probably the best option for a woman because of complications during the pregnancy.
