I have nothing against anyone that has done this -- seems like most people in their 25-35 has...in MI at least.

I personally am waiting but everyone around me ends up having a baby and separating from the Father afterwards. I feel so bad that all these kids are coming from broken homes!! :( I understand that to some marriage is only a slip of paper but to me...it's a LIFE LONG commitment to eachother. Why don't people do it more?? Don't they want to have a FAMILY NAME?

Good for you. You obviously see the devastation and problems that result from having children out of wedlock, and without any commitment from the father of the baby. And they know they can use you and then walk. And you're the one who has to raise that child alone, and that child grows up without both parents.

The reason for this is the promiscuity that is running rampant. People no longer give any value to sex, marriage, children, etc. Nothing and no one is important anymore.

Lack of respect for themselves and the idea that nothing is considered wrong for them as long as it makes them feel good. Poor parenting doesn't offer the kind of moral meter that bring kids to better judgement calls about their bodies and their life. And too many boys "hooking up" with so many girls wind up with children they have no interest in.....girls or babies. It's sad.

Yeah, it does leave me to wonder why people don't get married before the baby arrives. People should not have sex until their wedding night. I learned a huge lesson there. While I had premarital sex, with other guys, my husband and I didn't until our wedding night. We never shacked up, either. Makes all the difference in the world. But I haven't had kids yet, and my husband has one from his first marriage that ended 15 years before we got married.

I totally agree with you, it is ridiculous, really. As a school teacher, I have kids ask me all kinds of questions as to why their parents have different names, the crazy stuff their parents do to each other, etc. We need to build up our families so that we can train children into adults that will lead us into tomorrow. Our future will be bleak, if we don't fix the present.

It's because this generation sees it as a lifelong commitment that their parents failed at, tearing apart their lives, so they choose not to marry and put their kids through the same thing, not realizing that by breaking up they are still hurting their kids. It's a sad cycle that needs to stop.

People just dont care anymore. If parents would start paying more attention to their children then they will raise them with better values.
