I get a little confused about law...my friend went to court today.. and represented himself...and they said something about they were just going to get him set up to expunge his record..it was his first offense and it was a misdemeanor concealed weapon...what does the expunge mean?? If you have anything rude to say don't bother answering...

It varies from state to state. In New York, for example, if one is granted youthful offender status, the records are sealed and the indexes are modified to not return the name of the defendant when a search is run. After six months, if the defendant has not been charged with a separate crime, the records are destroyed and the index is erased. Legally, it is as if the conviction never took place, except that the probation department keeps a record available until the defendant's 20th birthday (so that if there is a second charge, the system will know that the defendant has already had his or her one bite of the apple).

Right. If it is expunged it must NEVER be shown again - unless the person commits another crime. That is the only reason for it to resurface again.

It mostly goes away.
I say mostly because if you ever try for a Top Secret security clearance, it may show.
