If you are using Windows XP, do the following:
Open start menu
Go to Help and Support
On the top part of the window, there will be a button called support - click on it.
On the bottom left of the screen there will be a panel labelled "See Also", inside that there will be a link named "My Computer Information" - Click it
Now click on View general system information
This will give you the information that you want

Try this program called CPU-Z. Gives you specs on some of your hardware.. There are lots of other programs that give this kind of information, like aida32, or sisoft sandra. This one seems small and simple. And free, of course.
