This is undoubtedly true. The devil is , however, as is so often said, in the details.
By this I mean that our emotions will defy logic, and I would maintain that this is an essential point intrinsic to our humanity.
Without emotion we are robotic creatures devoid of heart and soul, beauty, passion and love. All of these are major components of our emotional life, and so it is impossible to prescribe in any complete way when to assume an analytical perspective concerning the great challenges of our lives.
This is a question that can ONLY be answered on an individual, case by case basis. Great passion and great love require GREAT COURAGE.
With this courage will come the oportunity to experience incredible pleasure and joy. It is the ying and yang of life itself. To love deeply is to suffer greatly, but it is also the only path that can deliver transcendence from the binds of self absorbtion and fear.
The only way is to love without fear or expectation.
"In the end, the love you get is equal to the love you give"
Love, Thoughts, and Prayers,
Michael

Sometimes I go back and bang my head on a door that has refused to open for years. This may seem self defeating, even self destructive. Actually it is optimism. I have opened doors people thought I never could, and I've opened a few doors that stopped everyone else. But mostly I just get bruises.
Other times, I see a teeny tiny crack in an interesting door and jump right through! Weeeeeeeeeeee!
Never stare at a door, regrettfully or other wise. Either bash it down, or find a better door. The choice is yours.

Reading through the answers I am amazed. This is such a good question. Truth be told I never thought about it. I have heard people say that when a door closes another opens, however I have no experience of this to be a truth. I just open a hell of alot of doors at once that way I am too busy keeping them open to worry about it when one closes.

Darn....I've spent all my time looking for "windows of opportunities" when I should have been looking for doors opening. And on top of that, I took the "path less traveled" and there aren't even that many houses along the way. From now on though I'll be ready when opportunity knocks (but who knocks if the door is already open)?

yes... but it is God, friends and family that guide me to the open ones. It's like staring into a fridge and looking for the milk.. and you are looking so hard for it.. you finally ask someone where it is.. and they point to it. And you're stunned you missed it. But we learn from those closed doors.. take a step back and look at the big picture and ALL your options.

Some doors may close at times. Nothing to be done about that.
But the real quandary is if they are locked.
And does a person want to find out?

That is a profound question! You know, I see your point! It probably has to do with letting go of old dreams to take hold of new ones and that is hard to do, especially if relationships are involved. Also the fact that there are many unexpected bends in the road of life and a lot of times we think there is only one way to get where we're supposed to or want to go. Good question!

I did stare at a closed door for too long but now I'm moved on and anyone else should too.

Very, very good observation. I think alot of people do. Or some people don't want to walk through the door because they can't see how it will help them in the long run. I like that question, very nice question indeed. Very original.
