My personal laptop has no icons, only the quicklaunch bar. My work laptop has me restricted so I can't remove all the icons, though there are only 3 or 4.

I did away with desktop icons and opted for the "quick launch" toolbar onto which I copy *only* the icons which I use on a regular basis. I also rename the icons so as to keep the toolbar narrow, arrange it in order of use, most-used to the top, then dock it right, and keep the status bar as 1 line thick at the bottom, (showing only about 7of the top-used quick-launchers) and "lock" the toolbars. That way, the screen is very uncluttered.

I have a Mac desktop. My dock is EXCELLENT, the menu bar is SUPERIOR, but files are pretty much thrown around in my HD. So, in short: Clean desktop, cluttered HD.

I keep what i use on my desktop. Otherwise it goes into folders in my HD or on my desktop to avoid clutter.
