Well it isn't that simple. There are a couple of ways you could do it with sixty billion dollars. You could use money to illegally bribe public officials in certain countries so you would move up in political power and eventually rule the country. This would probably not work though because you would be bound to be found out if that much money was being thrown around. Now keep in mind 60 bil isn't endless. You could maybe buy up all the real estate in a small 3rd world area in a beautiful area and climate and kick everyone out. Then you could upgrade the public transportation systems, water, electricity, streets, housing and other things to make the real estate value skyrocket. You could then in turn lease the properties out to people and companies and rake in tons of cash. With this money you could expand slowly througout the rest of whatever country. This process however probably would not be able to be finished within a lifetime.

I think if Johnny Depp has enough money to buy an island, surely, Bill Gates has enough money to buy a country AND an Army to protect it. I would probably live there.

$60 billion is a LOT of money, but not enough to do any of those things. That money would buy only a few dozen square blocks in Lower Manhattan (at most --- major properties there are valued in the hundreds of millions, even a billion dollars), and it represents but a small fraction of U.S. defense expenditure (at least $700 billion; maybe more, depending on how you calculate).

Maybe some tiny impoverished country like Bhutan.

maybe a city.. or army.. but he couldn't buy a country or state etc. everyone's like in debt its more then Bill Gates has. it'd take years to pay off all the debt-- well in America. we couldn't possibly buy something that big.. well i dont know..i guess he could.. but i doubt it.
