EDIT EDIT EDIT. I meant for eating purposes everybody. No pun intended. And certainly no offense intended. I just want to know if people throw away the best part.

I asked this of the ladies cause they are usually the smartest one in the kitchen. And usually know what the best nutrition is. Most of the health benefits are in the skin of the cucumber. Please this is a serious question.

Good grief! Why do some people have to make a mountain out of a mole hil. Thank you to those taking this seriously.

No, Sarge, I love the peel of the cucumber. Besides the fact that the peel is the healthy part, it also tastes the best and keeps the cucumber crisp for longer.
And for a few people up here, remember, you need a perverse mind to see this question as perverse. I know Sarge very well and I know that he isn't in the least perverse. I know that his question wasn't intended to be perverse. Don't point fingers so eagerly, it shows others where you really stand!

I agree that the peel has the best nutrition, so more often than not, I keep the peel on and just slice them to mix in a salad or sqeeze lemon on them for a healthy snack.
Hope this helps.
P.S: Don't worry about the twisted minds, they are out there but just ignore'em.

Most of the nutrients in fruits and veggies are found in and just under the skin (- don't go there . . . ). When you peel it you are throwing away the best part. Just make sure you wash it so you can make sure you have no pesticides left on them. I believe peeling the cucumber came from the aristocrats for serving cucumber sandwiches at Tea!

Hi Sarge. Yup I leave the peel on most all veggies and any fruit that I can. You are so right most of the nutrition is in the part that so many people discard. Also over cooking veggies destroys the nutritional value. Raw is so much better.

I keep the skin on. That's where the vitamins are.
By the way....I know Sarge to be a good man with good intentions. He asked an innocent question, for heaven's sake.
Sarge was thinking about vegetables.
Amazing how some people misinterpeted. What were THEY thinking?

I always slice my cucumbers fresh, and put them in a salad, or pickle them in a brine, for at least 2 weeks. I like them dill, I like them sweet, they stay healthy for you, and are a great treat!
I never cook cucumbers. They lose their flavor, and I never peel them, because they lose their crunchiness, if you do, and taste like mush, having lost their texture. Texture is as important to taste, as freshness.
Happy cooking!

Ok, using or eating???? If I use them, I leave the skin on, if I eat them, I peel the skin in strips lengthwise leaving it looking like a zebra so when it's sliced it looks like a dashed line.

I like them peeled sometimes. If I'm making pickles I leave the skin on so they will be crunchy.

I peel them.
I don't like the texture of the peel, it's not so much the taste issue.
