Is A divisible by B?
means:
If I divide A by B, will there be a remainder?

Using only integers, if you divide 16,287 by 2, you will get 8143, with a remainder of 1. Therefore, 16287 is not divisible by 2.

Some numbers are easy to guess. A number is divisible by two only if its last digit is divisible by 2. The last digit in 16,287 is a 7. Not divisible by 2 (7 is an odd number).

16,287 is divisible by 3. If you divide it by three, you get 5429 with no remainder. Without doing the division, we can tell that it is by adding the value of all digits:
1+6+2+8+7 = 24
2+4=6
6 is divisible by 3
Therefore, 24 is divisible by 3 and
16,287 is divisible by 3.

A number is divisible by 5 only if it ends with a 5 or a 0.
16,287 is not divisible by 5.
16,287 divided by 5 = 3257, with a remainder of 2.

I skipped 4: for a number to be divisible by 4, it must be also divisible by 2 .

There are some tricks for higher numbers, but they are more complicated. Might as well just do the division and see if there is a remainder.

Is 16,287 divisible by 11?
Is the remainder 0 when you divide by 11?

Not without a remainder...

To figure if a number is divisible by 2 evenly, check to see if the last digit is a 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8. If it is any of these, then it is evenly divisible. If not, it is not.
