I'm moving down to jacksonville with my mom ( and 15 yr. old sister) to finish off my senior yr. of HS. She's still looking for a place there but I heard that the south side was the only safe and good place to live. I also received info about there being racism there, but as always I need a 2nd resource.

Does anyone know of any great schools, safe neighborhoods and great paying jobs for 18 yr. olds. Also if you know of any home in that neighborhood that's for rent (max: $2000 bd.4+) please let me know and some great fun places to go for fun or entertainment.

Thanks

Some schools are okay being that we have 2 schools in Newsweek's top 10; basically just look for schools that are in the magnet program. With the Magnet program, you can apply for a Magnet school and be entered into a lottery. But being that you are late for the deadline, i don't know what to say. Yes, the southside and arlington are good places to live at, BUT I warn you that there is TONS of traffic. Some areas of the Westside are good places to live at. The Northside is the Ghetto.

Racism is always an issue at every major city. Being that we are 700,000 or so city. (1 million or so, metro wise)

By the way, I'm 15 and I lived here all my life. Plus, I should know the schools well.

I've only been to Jacksonville a few times (headed there again in Nov. for an air show)

I can offer a bit of advice on fun things to do though. Being in Jax you'll be really close to St. Augustine. My family loves to go there on vacation. Tons of stuff to do, beautiful beaches, and you can learn a lot of history by just walking down the streets.

If you're into sports, I know they do have a huge sports complex in Jax that is right off I95. Wish I could be more help.
Good luck with your move!
