I've never heard/seen any do this. My Uncle owns a mechanic shop too and they never do this to their customers. Maybe they just think it is funny?

My mechanics never said that to me. He just gives it to me straight and then uses smelling salts when I faint. I think he thinks seeing me faint is funny.
