That would shift the entire timeline quite a bit and would have to be handled very carefully. Since Darth Vader would still be at the peak of his power, losing none of his Force sensitivity to injury, the Emperor would not have been able to control him as he did the suited Vader. It's possible he would have found the twins much earlier and the galaxy as a whole would most likely have taken a much darker turn.

If this is something you wish to write, I would encourage you to do so, despite the other comments here. Make sure that you have a good reasoning behind this major decision and make doubly sure that it is well-written. If both of the above applied to a story like this, I would at very least give it a shot by reading it.

Why not re-do 'The Elephant Man' as well and have him be a Supermodel?
Or how about going back and making Indiana Jones a parapalygic?
Or have Snow White NOT bite the poison apple and NOT being revived by the Prince's kiss?
Why not change The Wizard Of Oz as well? Have Dorothy's house land on the same planet as Riddick did in Pitch Black? The Chronicles of The Wizard of Pitch Blackness?
