They are packed with the shoes in order to remove any moisture that is in the air, and could damage the leather in the shoe and cause it to become moldy and thus unusable. They are referred to as a salt, as it is a chemical salt process to produce the gel that is super absorbent.
You have to realize that many products are shipped together, and many times clothing items may be shipped in the same container as water food and other items. Manufacturers must keep the freshness of all materials as much as possible, including leathers and other fabrics.

It's not salt! Do not put it on your food, lol. It is silica gel and it keeps the moisture and things from making your shoes nasty and smelly.

Its to keep the moisture out before they are bought, in order to avoid bacteria growth. The consumer is supposed to throw it away once the shoes are bought because its poisonous if consumed.

Those make the shoes not smell like everyone's feet that's been in it.
Nothing is wrose, when it comes to shoe shopping, is when you're buying shoes, and they smelled as if they have been used in a bowling alley.

well its quite simple.they put them in shoes to keep them fresh so they dont grow the sweaty smelly smell.also so they dont go grow mold in them and then no one wont buy the shoes from the store and they will eventually run out of buisseness.
