Redneck is more of a way of life, and less about race, in my opinion. Anyways, whites have embraced the phrase. My neighbor has the word plastered across his truck and there's comedy tours today where this name is glorified.

Did you mean discriminative? or disrespectful? I'm not sure the definition of despective. Regardless, red neck is one way of describing a group of people that take pride in being white and working hard. They believe in their country (as a whole), family, friends and music. There is no shame in being a redneck until someone says you're a racist. Which is a myth for most. Whether you want to believe this or not, most blacks have the same background as a red neck.

Words in themselves are not disrespectful (despective is not a word). It depends on how they are used. If the term "red neck" is used to denigrate (put down) a person, then it is disrespectful.

I have to agree with evo741hpr2. I live in the back woods of wv and it does not bother me to be called either one . I'm proud to be a hillbilly.calling me a red neck is also ok . why because we have a deer that comes in the house to eat what ever we are eating.I guess if you have a deer in your home you may be a red neck .. here we can find just what we are. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=redneck

Not a racial thing, just something that the good old boys are called down here in North Carolina. Most of them are rather proud of it. They would say it is a privilege.

This is such a matter of perspective and I agree with all of the answer above.

The problem to me begins with labelling others. If we call people names that can be used in a derrogatory manner then we are shutting down any chance of communication with them and stop ourselves from learning new things.

Redneck is a word Liberals use to throw at people who have a more conservative view than they do. As much as they yell about people generalizing , they will quickly put you in a trailer somewhere sharing a bed with your brother. I don't even know what it means really.
Wearing a mullet? Driving a Ford 4x4 pickup and drinking Budweiser? Who knows, it's just one of those things . It doesn't bother me much though , I don't care what people call other people really.
