Unfortunately, the start of labor is unpredictable. 70% effacement is good, but you also need to be contracting effectively in order to make sufficient cervical change. That is labor. Striping the membranes can start up contractions, but this does not necessarily mean they will be effective contractions. Try walking, having intercourse or other leisurely activities and hope for the start of labor soon!

Effacement and dilation are no indication of when you will go into labor. You can be 4 cm dilated and 75 percent effaced and go for several weeks without having the baby (which happened to me with my first). You can be 0 dilated and 0 effaced and have the baby tonight. Stripping membranes also does not do anything to up your delivery date -- many OBs no longer due this procedure because of this.

Well I think stripping membranes would have the most effect. I've been 3 cm dilated for over a month and 50% effaced. Just got checked to today and am 60% effaced. This has no bearing on labor!

You could have the baby today for all you know. But you can also stay 70% effaced for days or weeks. When I had my membranes stripped I went into labor that night and was 100% effaced by morning and had her that night. So it may go quickly if the stripping was good.

I walked around dilated 3 cm and 80% effaced for two weeks before i had my baby- never would have known I was except that the doctor told me!!! My baby was born right on her due date two hours after my water broke and 1 1/2 hours after labor started!!!!! I was one of the lucky ones!!! So it should be any day now, but everyone is different. I used primrose oil and i swear that's why my first baby was born exactly on her due date!!!

soon soon. you have to be 100% effaced and dialated to a ten for the baby to come out but your at a 3 and 70% your doing great. walk it helps the baby move down and helps to dialate and all that. good luck and congrats.

Your baby could be born at any time now or he or she could wait nother 2-3 weeks. Theres no chart about this and NO ONE knows the answer to this question. It will happen when it happens.
