In the USA to set a goal or strive towards something.
In sports like ( Hockey) it means a point when the puck goes in the net. The checkered fag is the goal of the race car driver.
In old England gaol meant a place of confinement (or jail)..
so, considering both, I much prefer the g o a l ....thanks
