For most of the Eighteenth Century that would be true. As the Colonies became wealthier, the affluent colonists imported a wide variety of goods, fashions, and customs from the mother country.

true....Americans were always self-consious of being 'propvincials', and therefore tried to make sure they were not outdated. They also had more money than the average Britian.
