Odd thing is that everyone is outraged by the fact that the train warning weren't working and not the fact that a bunch of 13 and 14 year olds stole a car and were racing at 3 am? Shouldn't the focus be on the fact that these teenagers shouldn't have been out a 3 am racing in a stolen car and not the fact that they got hit by a train? The parents are blaming the railroad rather than themselves. Isn't this crazy?

Didn't see the news article or hear about it, but I would agree with you. People nowadays do not want to take responsibility for their own actions. The parents are looking for someone else to blame for their own faults. They are embarrassed that their 13-14 year old kids were out there at 3 am.
I wonder, if these kids had killed innocent bystanders and they themselves had lived and gone to trial, the parents' lawyers would come up with something that would put the blame on the deceased. I would love to be on the jury for sure.

I couldn't agree with you more about this. We had a similar situation here recently. (Houma, La.) Four young boys driving a stolen car crashed on a lonely highway at 3 or 4 in the morning and all were killed. The driver was 12 years old. A gun found in the wreckage was stolen during a nighttime break-in at a Academy Sports store a week before. The next day the mother of one of the kids was boo hooing to the reporters about her's was a good kid that fell in with the wrong crowd. Why was her supposedly good kid doing out at 3 in the morning? I blame the parents first and the mind numbing video games that glorify fast cars and fast living. Well it was fast living for that bunch because the most any of them lived was 14 years. We live in a sue crazy nation. People are looking to blame others for their own shortcomings and are ready to sue at the drop of a hat.

What makes these irresponsible parents think that children who steal a car, violate curfew, and break the speed limit would obey a railroad crossing barrier? These barriers are nothing more than wooden gates, decorated with flashing red lights and painted so as to be noticeable at night. My bet is that they wouldn't. Same result.
Trains and cars are the modern world's way of eliminating the stupid from the gene pool. Cruel but true...

When I was 13, I would have been given the "belt treatment" by my father if I was out after the sun set......... and stealing? I would have rather of gone to jail than to face him. Parents have got to love their kids so much that - if called for - respect through "tough love" must be used. But it shouldn't come to that if the child is taught the might of doing right from the get-go.

I agree. Parents should be more responsible for their children's whereabouts but it IS easy to sneak out @ night unless your parents have you under lock & key. I don't live in that area so i don't know about the situation with the RR tracks but it DOES sound like some of the parents are passing the buck according to the story. There's also going to be an offcial investigation. (sigh). Here's a link to the story:

LMAO they hit a parked train, that is so stupid! I know I shouldn't laugh, but lord have mercy! Not only their parents didn't do a good job raising them, they didn't care either. Until something bad happened. What a shame.

The car hit the train, not the other way around!!

My thoughts exactly - yes it's sad that lives were lost, but of course the parents are looking for someone - anyone - to blame except their little darlings who caused this catastrophe. No one wants to take responsibility for themselves anymore, I'm sure lawyers all over town are rubbing their hands in glee over the suits that will be filed.
