I think that since the Padres play in a pitcher friendly ballpark, we could get Jake Peavy, a dominant number one starter with an ERA under 2. Do you suppose we could:

Trade Dunn and (starting pitcher, like Kyle Lohse) for Jake Peavy?

This would give Ryan Freel the opportunity to play everyday, putting Freel in left, Josh Hamilton in center, and Ken Griffey in right? That way, Freel and Norris Hopper could split time. Wayne Krivsky could also go to the Braves possibly and get a long relief pitcher to help the Reds horrendous bullpen.

Good deal for the Reds, but there's no way the Padres give up Peavy for anyone, especially a guy who will be a free agent soon enough.

The Dodgers are a more likely candidate, because they have plenty of pitching to deal and have looser purse strings. I'm sure they could part with a starter, and they desperately need some power in that lineup.

The Reds need pitching badly, and they have to get a #2-3 starter in return for Dunn.

I could see how the Reds might be inclined to trade Dunn. His power is attractive, but at the end of the day he has a low batting average and strikes out pretty frequently. I'm sure the right deal, if offered, could entice them to lose Dunn, and teams in need of a power spark (like SD) could use someone like Dunn. That being said, I don't think the Padres would part ways with Peavy unless offered something absolutely ridiculous. Peavy's having a Cy-Young season (if the season ended today, I say he gets it), and I think he's quickly becoming the face of their franchise. Freel, if playing every day could put up some good numbers, but I don't see Peavy happening. Maybe Randy Wolf, Brad Penny, or Derek Lowe combined with a Matt Kemp, Juan Pierre or someone else, but I don't know that the Dodgers would be looking to mess with their pitching in the middle of a season with high expectations. Good question though, and interesting food for thought.

Don't expect Jake Peavy in return...if the Padres get Adam Dunn...they get him for three months, Peavy on the other hand has a contract that gives him a few years....the Padres would more likely give up a younger less experienced pitcher say Hermano or Hensley

WHOA WHOA WHOA!!! Adam Dunn and Kyle Lohse for Jake Peavy??? That will never happen!!! The Padres aren't giving up Peavy. Never in a million years. Sorry, I just had to make that clear.

If the Padres want Dunn, they are going to have to give up some young talent because the Reds are out of it and they will be asking for young talent. Same thing with the Dodgers...they are going to have to give up young talent for Dunn.

You are going to have to trade Dunn, Homer Bailey and Hamiliton and a couple of other players to even think about getting Peavy. Dunn by himself isint near the worth of a Jake Peavy

My father in law is a big Reds fan and he always says that Dunn has more holes in his swing than a good swiss cheese. The conventional wisdom is to get as much value as possible, since it is unlikely that the Reds would re-sign him after this year.

What either of the teams have to offer, well, I am not the GM of any of the teams...but if I were the Reds, I would let the bidding war start, and be sure to get a servicable pitcher (at least) as part of a deal.

the reds are really stuck as in who they can get unless they can some how move adam dunn, griffeyalthough still good wont go anyhere, the ill try to get some goood pitching, so the possibility of them trading for Peavy is good, they might even have a cahnce to get someone better, they could deal with the yanks who are on a skid and looking for anyone to step up, adam dunn will go absolutely.

the reason being: destiny fulfillment. The Reds get a competent prospect that leaves them longing for a extra positive destiny. immediately the Reds are not contending for a identify, that is why they traded Griffey & Dunn. they are rebuilding with the intention to objective to win contained in the destiny. they want to construct round gamers like Edison Volquez. also they are trying to get youthful gamers because they sense sorry about dropping a participant like Josh Hamilton who sparked this twelve months and basically took off with wonderful skills. basically wait....they receives right into a playoff race interior of many years.

padres will never trade peavy especially for dunn who strikes out like half the time. the best thing the reds can do is ask for one of the padres' best pitching prospects.

Dunn and his career .218 batting average with RISP gets the Reds maybe a couple of prospects in return, that's if they're lucky.

If you thinking Peavy, then you're really over estimating his value.
