No, I do not agree. It sounds like whomever said that is a very depressed person and has no joy in life. That is too bad, there are so many things that bring joy and portray beauty, even if just for a quiet and private moment.

Life... "is a tale told by an idiot full of sound and fury: I agree. I'm not sure about "Signifying nothing".. That would take a lot of deep thought.

My initial feeling is that there doesn't seem to be a lot of purpose in life. Even with as much scientific advancement as humans have made, we still haven't figured out how to live in harmony with our planet.

Present society seems like it's building a tower of Babel which is endlessly tall. The motivation initially seems credible, but in the end, the focus is lost with no real goal or end in sight.

We place more importance on human life and human comforts than on the bigger picture of what is best for our planet. We are short-sided, selfish beings.

It's easy to say it and believe it. It's harder to do anything about it. I'm not there yet.

This is clear and strong argumentative question asking for a clear and strong opinion. There is search for clarity in the mind; and the very question is proof of that.

Life could be a tale told by an idiot, but most certainly is not being lived by idiots. This is the fact that there are many tales contrived out of times of human history and presented with twists, spins and biases upon unalterable - only arguable in their content - pages of human history. What we hear then might not be what actually happened, as it certainly is not all that happened. Then there are bigger questions, question about the very origin of human race, human goodness, existence of God, the beginning and the end of creation. We are simply baffled by the very life we are, and yet we do not stop asking and searching for answers. The premise of the question therfoer do have a gound to pitch an arguementation of opinions.

It is possible according to the quotation that life is a tale spiced up and dramatically being told by an idiot, but that proves only one things that may be someone has tuned into listening to the wrong narrator. Could their be different versions of the same story of same reality in happening? May be somewhere and by someone the story of life is being unfold that is much closer to the truth, and which is not merely a pantomime version, a caricature, of the actual reality of life, and existence at large.

The very fact that makes us doubt an ultimate reason and purpose in life, is also the logic against itself. Why, for instance, anything would look or sound idiotic if there is no reasonable intelligence in view to compare it with? Then again life might a story being blared out by some idiot, gaining popularity in the masses, but life most certain is not being lived by idiots. I would believe the ones who live instead of those who just comment upon life and its living.

Hmmm...I'm not quite sure with this as a definition of life; however, I agree that anyone who tries to tell you what life is/should be, what its meaning is, what it's all about, is the idiot, and what that idiot is saying is nothing but bluster that means absolutely nothing to anyone listening. The idiot is giving his perspective on life, and it is a tale, it is not truth, it is a story, and it means nothing to the lives of others. That is how I interpret this quotation.

No. Nihilism, "belief in nothing," is a stupid and perverse philosophy. The significance, as you just pointed out, is that life is full of sound and fury, told by an idiot. That, according to your quote, is the meaning of life. Not a very good meaning, but still, one very far off from "nothing."

The meaning of life is what we make of it. If we are constantly living our lives according to idiotic philosophies, than that's what we will get. A bunch of noise with not much meaning.

When we go to the movies, we buy a ticket for something that is interesting, excites us,makes us think, makes us cry,laugh...scares us to death. In short, we do like our comedy/dramas and would be bored stiff with a "flatlined" existence. We want the unexpected, the unpredictable!

After watching the movie, we brush off the popcorn and leave. We may think a little about the plot while driving home, but it is soon forgotten...meant nothing to us, really.

I tend to think this life we are living is much like this movie scenario. We"Idiots" do like a good show and are drawn to sound and fury!

Even though, we say we suffer and want things to go more smoothly, we don't,not really, we want to read the headlines and watch the evening news! We are excitement addicts! :)

Yes, I most certainly agree. Seeing a life as a particular life, with no connection to other lives, that picture is completely unintelligible and smeared because it is only a fragment of the complete picture of the complete Life as a union of all lives brought together and divided one after another for eternity in a circular process. That complete picture is incomprehensible to us as we can see only a fragment of the picture and that fragment, as much as we give it meaning, as much it is more meaningful when it is a part of the whole than just a part that is artifically presented as a whole

No I don't agree but Shakespeare certainly had a way with words, didn't he? This is the cynical, nihilistic view of life. I'm afraid it is the way I used to feel. I used to be very negative but I'm learning to be positive...

Now I say: Life is a journey to be discovered and enjoyed, through innocence & experience, filled with beauty & wonder, a meaningful experience, an expression of love.

its wonders to be known...

No. That is the jaundiced perception of the tyrant Macbeth who foolishly mistook fulfillment of political ambitions for happiness. He was wrong from the start.
