Okay, yesterday I went to walmart and browsed their fish like I always do. I know it is not wise to buy fish from there.. Anyways, I saw this fish that looked like a rainbow shark except its body was midnight black and it had silver/grey colored fins and tail. There was close to 10 in one tank, and they were with peppered and bronze corydoras. There also in that same tank was another type of shark. It was pure black. It had a black body, fins, everything. The only one in the tank. The stickers above the tank were RAINBOW SHARK, RUBY RED SHARK, ASSORTED CORYDORAS. Anyone know what type of shark catfish these fish are? If so, could I ever put them in a 29 gallon?
Thanks So Much!!!!!!

The pure black one was more stockier then the ones with the black bodies and silver fins. There were about 2-21/2 inches long. They didn't seem to be picking on each other or the cories.

Rainbow Shark and Ruby Red shark is two common names for the same fish (Epalzeorhynchos frenatus) which is actually a loach and will do fairly well in a 29 gallon, but may eventually out grow the tank in a few years. They are fairly slow growing fish.

The black fish with the silver fins that looked so much like a rainbow shark must be some other type of loach. There are only 5 species of Epalzeorhynchos and that doesn't really sound like any of them, so it must be something else fairly closely related. Without a pic or even more to go on I would suggest you try googling images of loaches and see if one pops up they looks like the fish you saw.

Of course, it could also be some type of catfish... did it have whiskers?

These fish could easily be red tailed sharks also.
