Just because a bike was built 35 years ago, doesn't make it intrinsically valuable or a collectors item. I would say a bike that old has little or no value, unless it's showroom condition, with ridiculously low mileage. Even then, unless there's a big demand for that year/model, you won't get much for it. It's old technology, parts are probably hard to come by. Any item is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.

If the bike runs, is in decent shape, and has a title, that's a steal. As far as using a 39 year old bike as daily transportation? I don't know if I would recommend it. It really depends on what you have in mind. If you are doing city commuting or riding around a college campus, then I would say it was fine. If you are planning on using it for any longer distances, or in places where gettng stranded would be dangerous, I would buy another bike too. (Don't pass up this deal though.) There are a TON of bikes out there that will work just as well and maybe be more reliable and highway safe. A quick look at my local Craigslist has a '90 XT350 right in your price range. That might work a little better as a daily form of transportation, but the possibities are endless.
