What don't the CAVS need? Aside from Lebron James and Drew Gooden, this is not a team that's built for long-term success in the NBA.
For starters, they're crippled by a few contracts, most notably Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Larry Hughes. Big Z is a good player, but he's too slow to be a true force in an era when Duncan is the prototype NBA center. Hughes basically took max money from the Cavs based on one very good, but injury plagued season with Washington.
This leads to the next point: Danny Ferry may not be cut out to be their GM. At least Jim Paxson drafted LBJ. Ferry has made some extremely questionable signings (Big Z, Hughes, Donyell Marshall, Damon Jones) and hired Mike Brown to be the NBA's least imaginative coach. Brown walked into a situation with one of the most dynamic offensive players in recent league history, and it still is one clearout after the other.
This is an old and battered team that needs to be blown up, but they're in salary cap purgatory. Z and Hughes won't be off the books for a while and they represent the primary chunk of money that will keep this team from really taking off.
Think about it: If it weren't for a couple of second round picks (Gibson and Varejao) a castoff (Gooden) and a basketball savior (LBJ), this team wouldn't have even sniffed an NBA finals appearance. It just goes to show how good James really is.
Ideal situation: They get rid of Mike Brown, Z, Hughes, Damon Jones, Donyell Marshall, and Eric Snow, and use their cap figures to build an athletic team that can run and better utilize LBJ's offensive gifts. Of course, that's not going to happen as every contract is 100% guaranteed.
Good luck, Cleveland fans.

Personally I think Cleveland could really use a pass-first point guard. Daniel Gibson will shape up to be a solid guard in the league and should only get better from here, but I see him as more of a shooting guard. I know that Lebron often handles the point duties, but I think another option at point guard would take the weight off Lebron and allow him to focus more on scoring and defending. That being said, Steve Blake in free agency is cheap, and I think would make a great fit in Cleveland if given the minutes.

Scoring is their issue, especially in the 3rd quarter. LeBron is a streaky shooter, Larry Hughes is hurt, Gibson is young. They may not need to acquire another player if and I mean if LeBron improves on his shooting touch, Larry Hughes gets back to his old self and Gibson gains a bit more experience. In addition they would have to come up with better offensive plays. Ilgauskas is a real nice midrange shooter, perhaps a play to help Ilgauskas to get open looks for jumpshots around the painted area. I have also seen Gooden knock down that little jumper between 10 and 15 feet from the bucket. Getting more points from their big men would help. It will also take Sasha Pavlovic, Daniel Gibson, Donyell Marshall and Damon Jones knocking down open three pointers. I remember LeBron stating earlier in the playoffs that their coach does not care what they run on offense just as long as they play defense and as of now I am not feeling that at all. The Cavs need to put themselves in a position to score more points with less effort, whether altering the way they run their offense or picking up key players to help push them over the edge.

There are some free agents out there, but don't think lebron doesn't have help! Ilgauskus is an all star center....Drew Gooden is solid to border line great at times....Larry Hughes is a heck of a scorer....and before everyone was talking about how great Daniel Gibson was......why is he inadequate now? Donyell Marshall has always been decent.....Lebron needs to develop and outside perimeter jumper more than he needs more help b/c if he doesn't get to the rim, his chances of scoring are slim. My point has been proven throughout this series.

What do the Cavs need to push them over the edge?
Trade nearly the entire team for a few proven people out of the West.

To put them over the edge the need a better PG and for LEbron to develop a killer shot like Kobe or Tmac... Lebron still has not developed that jumper. He can drive in but when his path is cut off it bascially a TO. Lebron needs to work on his jumpshot adn from the looks of it his form looks ugly. Lebron may be a better player than carmelo but Carmelo shoots better than lebron. So to put them over the edge Lebron needs to shoot better and take over games instead of passing the ball at the end of the game.

Dunno if cavs have enough money to sign him
If lebron is not selfish and would love for the city , the franchise and himself to win a championship, he would take a slight pay cut from his gargantuan contract and that would give the cavs enough money to sign a premier super star in the offseason

Maybe a Jermain Oneal or a Kevin Garnett would fit nicely with LeBron.
