The point to all of this is there is such abuse of power with the whole political system and we allow it to happen....for all the crap they spend money on i would have lots of pennies in my penny jar and you total up all of our pennies and we could possibly do something good with it

ok, how about we just do this.

stop giving congressional members allowances for travel at all.

stop giving them free housing, free food and free healthcare - not just pelosi - all of them.

if we bring their lifestyles down a few pegs, then maybe they will develop a bit of empathy for the rest of us...

This is a good question. There's a lot of conflicting information in the story, so I'd like to see what Pelosi herself says. The story implies she wants the policy changed but in the next breath says:

"Pelosi’s office inquired about such travel on June 1...In a June 8 memo, the head of legislative affairs for the Pentagon, Robert L. Wilkie, told Defense Secretary Robert Gates that he sees Pelosi’s question as a first step toward challenging the policy."

The way Wilke sees it is not necessarily the what Pelosi meant. These questions remain: Was this just an inquiry by Pelosi? Was she trying to change a policy or clarify an existing one?

Your article goes on to say that a Pelosi spokesperson says: “It has been longstanding policy that, in the absence of a congressional spouse, the adult child of a member of Congress may accompany the member on official U.S. government travel abroad for protocol reasons and without reimbursing the U.S.Treasury,”

When all is said and done, however, what's the out of pocket difference to the taxpayer if an adult child TAKES THE PLACE of a Congressman's spouse on an official trip. ZERO. This is a false issue to create the impression that Pelosi is corrupt.

Pelosi can afford it! Dem-o-rats talk about rich Republicans, well Pelosi is a very rich elitist! She owns hotels, resturuants and a vineyard in California. She publically backs unions but won't allow any in any of her businesses. Then criticizes companies like Walmart for keeping overhead low by not allowing unions in. She now wants us to pay for tickets that she and her elitist counterparts can easily afford? Libs have NO shame!

Well I'm glad you asked this question, because I wouldn't have been aware of the situation otherwise. How about she gives schoolchildren free rides with her so they can see what other stuff she does....oh wait, then she'd get in trouble for corrupting young children.

She's just another cut and run liberal coward who wants to waste taxpayers money. Most of the Congressmen has their family on their payroll, which the taxpayers pick up that bill, too!
