Ah, the classic book of poverty and tenement life during the early 1900s ... a great mini-classic, but one that is very rarely assigned any longer, so my guess is there are no spark.notes on this novel. The best one might come up with is a summary, like the one on amazon.com

Alberich, this is a lovely question and you have received many very thoughtful answers. I would like to humbly assert that my musical 'glass' is half-full. I have listened to and loved Classical music for 51 yrs now (since the age of 10). My mother was a music educator and taught me piano until I rebelled. I describe myself as a music purist and agree with Hafwen's description about the politics of music and subsequent decisions that she made. I felt that if I became a music therapist I would have to sacrifice my deep love of Music. I am also a nurse and considered changing my field to Music Therapy but decided against that. I am much happier playing music for small groups or at church. I treasure the many concerts and live performances I have attended. Nothing has been wasted! My life is deeply enriched by music & hope that will continue! I do enjoy being on Y!A and sharing with like-minded folks. All the best, Julian of N
