Hi everyone

While I was on vacation, I was due to get my period (nearing the end of my contraceptive pills for the month), but instead of going on the 7 day break (or placebo pills), I bought a new pack and just kept going to hold off my period.

I'm someone who has a very heavy period, and I'm afraid of how it's going to be at the end of this month now that I've missed one.

Also, I just got a new prescription to take these pills, though I've been taking the pill for a couple of years already. So I've never experienced what the side effects of this pill might be during my period (sometimes I feel nauseous, get cramps, get a sensation in my legs..).

Basically, I'm just afraid that my period, and the side effects might be two times as intense since I skipped my last one.

What do you say? And have you done this before to miss a period? Are there any risks?

Thank you so much!!

My doctor told me that skipping more then one month at a time is bad for your system. So i only do it on those special occasions.

However i do admit that when i skip my period and then the next month comes i get it worse. Not so much flow but cramps and PMS.. its like twice as bad. So i know how you feel. But i realised that skipping my period for the special occasion is worth it for pain the next month. just remember to stock up on painkillers and perpare yourself. The flow shouldn't be worse but you may get more cramps

Good luck

I've done this for years to control pain of endometriosis, my doctor told me to take my BCP for 3 or 4 months at a time without a break. Your body adjusts fairly well. You may have some cramping when it would normally be time to start, but if you keep taking the pills without taking the placebo you shoudln't have any flow at all.
If you're looking for a lighter flow, ask your doctor about Meclomen. It reduces flow and therefore reduces your pain. I've taken it for 4 or 5 months now and LOVE it - there's hardly ANY flow at all - all 7 days combined have less flow than about a half day of regular flow, seriously, it's a lifesaver!

I did this before many years ago. The period was not worse than the one that I skipped. As you know, they are making new pills that will cause you to only has a period every season of the year. I am not in favor of that. It just seems so unnatural. At any rate, finish your pack now and allow the period to come. You should be fine.

I was on the pill for 18 years, loved it. Never had any problems. Never got pregnant either. In the summer, I would occasionally continue my pills to hold off my period for swimming or vacation like you did. I never had any problem. I think the key is not to do it very often.

I had read on a few different medical sites (i'm sorry, I don't have the source at the moment =[ ) that it's completely safe to skip your period for 3 months at a time. Call your doctor though and ask what he/she thinks.

I skipped my fourth week and it took months to get back on schedule. I had breakthrough bleeding and I never knew when it would show up.

I will never skip that fourth week again!
