I just got 3ds max 8, but now I find that I have no materials or textures in the program; everything's absolutely blank. Does this happen with everyone? And also, where can I get these materials and textures? Is there anyway I can maybe get them for free? Thanks a lot!

By the way,I didn't buy the program, I downloaded it from someone who shared the file. Don't know if that makes any difference.

Can`t help with the max 8 problem, but loads of sites for textures, some good ones for free at
www.i-deas.es under the 'free stuff' section,
also at 3dcafe

Did you buy or download it? I got the materials, textures and tutorials on disk 2 (torrent)

I did similar as you. Mine has 2 disks, I had to copy the contents of disk 2 to the directory. Do you have 2 disks as well?

check where you put them, for instance, in the My Documents folder there is a sub-folder for 3ds 2010. There is also another in the C: drive. check program files/autodesk/3ds max 2010 and there check if your materials are in the right folder. another thing could be that the files are corrupted, another version or maybe they didn't install correctly. when you go into material editor try opening the files from there. check all that and see if it works. good luck.
