Yes, I agree, but ... sometimes those who ask questions are seeking only to avoid learning anything by doing their own research; and sometimes, those who answer, and who truly know a great deal about the subject, might unintentionally appear to be arrogant when really they are just trying to be helpful. Everyone is able to give what they can ... "to those who are given much, much is required:

I agree that the Answers site's main purpose is to share knowledge and help others. Sometimes, one can help by giving praise when needed. One lonely person wrote just to ask others to wish her a happy birthday, so many of us did. Was that seeking praise? Perhaps; but perhaps just seeking validation of her existence due to insecurity or a feeling of emptiness. There certainly are others who seem to use this site as a means of being needlessly cruel, hateful, deliberately negative, and to spread their own bigotry or prejudices. While the Constitution guarantees freedom of speech, common courtesy should act as a filter to a healthy mind not in inflict needless harm. I hope your question generates many responses, but I would guess that some of them will not be the type you're hoping for.

i agree about the showing off and the bit about the leader of this category. i hate it when people just type in whatever random crap they can think of just to get points. some people even get lewd or nasty. i think the whole idea of yahoo answers-sharing knowledge and ideas-is great, but then as in life, there will always be crazy retards out there that will ruin a great thing.

yes i agree... however in your statement about showing off and getting praise, i think its really up to you how you interpret the answers given to a certain question. they may be sarcastic with their answer but good thing is they answer what is being asked. Right?

I don't know what you mean by "show off." Would you rather have people dumb down their responses? I'm more offended by retarded non-answers and misspelled nonsense. I agree with you for the most part, but I think you are asking two different questions.

Yes sure,
I agree with you. It is dangerous to mention our names and our identities. There are a lot of people trying to get profile of other persons. Hope they keep everything confidential.

If one participates for the sake of showing off or being noticed don't select his/her answer as the best.
