A. A rift valley is a valley below the ocean where rising magma has forced twin mountain ranges to form. By the force of the magma that is rising the pressure of the magma increases causing a pressure and thus cracks or rifts are formed that form a valley between the two ridges once the magma cools.

Of the choices provided, only A comes close. But in addition to that cited in A, rift valleys also form on land as in the case of the Great Rift Valley in Africa. The rift is that portion of crust that has subsided below adjacent uplands due to faulting. Also known as a "graben."

"The Great Rift Valley is a vast geographical and geological feature, approximately 6,000 kilometres (3,700 mi) in length, which runs from northern Syria in Southwest Asia to central Mozambique in East Africa. Caused by the geological process of rifting, it is a complex feature where several plates of the earth's crust join. The rift valley varies in width from thirty to one hundred kilometers, and in depth from a few hundred to several thousand meters."
