First, let me say that I enjoyed this book a great deal. As for the theme, remember that a theme is what a book or poem or movie is essentially about. What is the main point. In this case, the theme of the "Life of Pi" is about faith, a person, in this case a zoo keeper's son, who tries to find the right faith to match what he knows and thinks and believes. It's all about a person who wants to know about God or the gods and wants to establish his own life within a system of faith. Does that make sense?

it has many themes: the power of love, the nature of truth, belief and faith vs. science and reason, the power of story telling, etc.
