No i dont see anything wrong with being a cashier and taking a rest if no one is in the store for u to attend to. There are times when u will be tired and u are only human and you are no slave cuz "they" say slavery have been abolished a long time ago. When you work yourself out and you collapse the boss will just get another person to fill your space, the business will go on my dear. so take my advice and do what you can and what you cant manage leave it alone! By the way i am a cashier too, i know what you're talking about

I don't. I use to work in a cafe from 8 am to 9 pm on Saturdays to make up hours I had during the week. In the afternoon, things would be dead and I would relax. If all my thigs were already prepared, dishes were done, and everything was clean. No, I don't see anything wrong with it. Although, you may want to consult the manager on duty to make sure there isn't anything he could have you doing :)

I think one of the hardest jobs is standing in one spot for hours. That kills my feet and legs. If the work is done, and there are no customers, and it's the policy to stay behind the register, I see nothing wrong with "taking a load off".

There is always work that needs to be done in any retail establishment. Find something productive to do, and the slow time will fly by. Plus, you'll make a good impression on your boss. This could lead to a raise...
So, get off your bottom, and get to work!!!

Sounds like some one caught you not looking busy. There is always something to do when customers aren't around. Clean the salt & pepper shakers, fill the cruets... there is all kinds of stuff to do.... even while sitting down and resting your fanny. You can look busy sitting down. Try it and you won't get busted again.

When I worked in fast food, I learned that there is always something to be doing. You're not getting paid to sit down. Grab a bottle of windex and clean the window, wipe down the counter, arrange the ketchup packets, anything! And your managers will be impressed with you, too!

No, I don't. However once work comes up and/or someone walks in, they should not be sitting anymore. Sitting down makes people see you as being lazy unfourtantely. However, I don't see the big issue.

Any place I have ever worked has never wanted you to sit down at any time. There is always something to do.

Not at all. I had a job once as a cashier and they thought that it was unprofessional. Even when I was pregnant!

All the work is never done. That's probably what your boss told you. Is the dining room clean? Are the shelves stocked? Is the bathroom clean? There is ALWAYS something.
