Is it the threat to the holders of wealth, or is it the fear of liberalisms want to spread it around? You have the resourses to convey this message to poor people and now even some of those folks share this fear. How is that? Please no answers about freedom, it's not about that...or religion. Money talks and I just want to hear what it has to say... I mean, if gorvernment is so limited then who gets to pull the strings?

Since conservatives and liberals both include very wealthy people, the threat to my wealth is not exclusively a conservative or liberal problem. As a liberal myself, my conservative friends tell me their greatest fear is loosing choice in how to USE their wealth; they think having less government and fewer laws is the answer, whereas I, as a liberal, know full well that the government is in a much better position to determine "best use" than any individual could ever be. Consequently, I very much support social programs and other initiatives of the liberal agenda that will discourage people from wanting to achieve wealth.

The most effective way to do this is through a progressive tax system which taxes you more as you make more. Unfortunately, in recent years, conservative republicans have had some success in reducing the tax rate which has had the unfavorable effect of encouraging greater economic activity and accumulation of wealth. However, the liberals have a much better chance now at controlling the congress, and the American public is beginning to wake up and realize that the conservative agenda has failed miserably, as too many people have actually succeeded in becoming wealthy.

A new, liberal congress, comprised of people who share my liberal views, will reverse this development, returning more money to the entrustment of the government which will act on behalf of us all. Thank you for such a penetrating, thoughtful question.

My biggest fear (in the realm of the question) is that the government will end up controlling businesses and individuals rather than allowing the free market to do it's own thing. Money does talk. When the government is left out of the equation, more negotiating happens between individuals and businesses. The government uses its authority to do what it wants without regard to all parties with interests at stake. This includes taking from the successful and giving to the lazy using our current crippling tax structure. The FAIRTAX plan would eliminate many of the problems the government is currently causing in the open market.

It appears from your question that there are many things about conservatives that you don't understand.

Our fear of government is only that it will gain too much power. Conservatives have faith in PEOPLE. Liberals put their faith in government programs.

People are perfectly capable of managing their own affairs and do not need the government to tell them how much money they can make, what they should learn in school, what kind of car to drive, etc.. The end result of too much government control is that people will fail to realize their full potential as human beings. By now, most of us know that when you mention "spreading wealth," you merely mean that you want to take it from those who work hard, create a vision, take risks, create jobs, etc. and give it to peope who do none of those things. And don't say that you are helping those who are incapable......it only illustrates your lack of faith in people.

It's clear you don't understand another thing. It really is about freedom. All of us, even you, are capable of achieving great things either by creating things that people need, helping others fulfill their potential, discovering new things, the list goes on. If we are limited by the overwhelming power of government, of if government takes resources away from us that could be used for these purposes, we are then limited as human beings.

People are created with enormous potential to do good things and with the freedom to pursue them. Our freedom does not come from our government. It comes from our Creator. The ONLY thing government can do is limit personal freedoms.

My biggest fear is that one day there will even Less of a motivator to succeed on an individual basis by the government getting too large.

When the government hands everything to the people, where is the motivation for anyone to succeed, as succeeding would only mean you succeed only to support others?

That is my biggest fear.

Our country is too big, with too much population, and definitely too many people with a sense of entitlement for wealth distribution. To punish us for our success is to destroy the American dream, or any initiative for anyone else to work for it. So, yes, I fear Socialism. The only countries it's worked for, such as Austria, already had a low population, low crime rate, and highly educated people.

All it makes us want to do is to take our money elsewhere, and that will definitely ruin the economy.

im not conservative but can tell you its none of the above. conservatives wish the government would only protect them and monitor the economy to a small extent. they fear the government becoming big brother, monitoring every aspect of our lives and dictating who we can marry, do, work, live, love, etc

thats why so many real conservatives have distanced themselves from the current administration because though it be republican, it doesnt uphold the truest sense of conservatism

My wife (who is a conservative) feels that it will be the wholesale giveaway of the country, either by giving money to people who have not earned it, or allowing illegals to run wild
