you're assuming that all gay people are in "the closet." you are only in the closet if you put yourself there. If you place yourself there, then naturally, it will eventually become necessary to "come out."

no need to blame society or heteros or anybody else. homosexuality is different. it is the minority, hence, just like any other minority, you just have to deal with some stuff.

because coming out of the closet means admitting you're not straight

Here's a better question? Why does anyone have to be put into the closet? Why does a closet still exist?

LOL We sure do! When we have to hide our first boyfriend/girlfriends from our parents.....that could be considered "Coming Out"

No seriously it's not fair.....The sad truth as to why straight people don't have to go through that is because heterosexuality is accepted in our society......and I say it's sad because if Homosexuality is mentioned in the BIBLE which is like the oldest book known to Man then WHY IN THE HELL ISN'T IT ACCEPTED YET?!?!?

It's not Fair

Because society in general just assumes people are straight.

because approximately about 6 in 10 are straight, 3 in 10 are bi, and 1 in 10 are gay... and usually, since being gay/bi is seen as taboo in our society (not as much bi though), a lot of people choose to hide their sexualities rather than to share them with the public, basically using their intellect to defer that they could get in a whole lot of crap if they came out to be gay/bi. the people nowadays can be so cruel to others... even other such trivial things such as sexuality. so, since "being straight" will most likely get you in a lot less trouble, many people will opt to hide their true sexualities, with 9/10 people being able to qualify as "heterosexuals", even though 3/10 of those people have a multi-gender preference (bi's can say that they are "straight" kind of and get away with it generally). and straight people are supposedly dominant in our society today.

because since a larger percent of humans are straight, people naturally assume that you are straight, until you say otherwise, poeple go with whatever is the norm.

Because I can't remember the last time I read a news story about a guy being beaten to death just for holding hands or kissing his GIRLFRIEND in public...unless, of course, he got caught kissing somebody else's girlfriend or wife...Does that help explain it?

It's expected for people to be straight. It's no suprise when you tell people you like the opposite sex.

Because *most* people in society see being straight as the default sexual orientation.
