My wife wants me to help her with her bridal business, currently run from home. I do help her, but one room is overly 'girly' and I guess I don't find it too manly to work in such an industry. Is this an outdated view? It's not that I don't like looking at brides or the dresses, they are pretty for sure, but don't wanna be asked a question like 'what do you do' and I reply ' I work in a dress shop!!' So should I avoid it, or help her - at the end of the day I just want her to succeed, just I feel uncomfortable...a bit silly maybe?

No, I dont think its silly for asking this question, I think its wonderful that you are considering helping your wife, that is the most manly thing to do of all and very masculine.
Its men ( and women too of course) who are the pastry chefs of all those beautiful cakes and I would be lost without all the fashion designers out there who are men. Being a male working in the fashion industry is actually very hip, especially being a heterosexual one...and in the bridal industry too its romantic and probably will be fun, go for it and good luck !

Well, if you feel uncomfortable with the idea then maybe you should tell your wife and be honest, but you can also take a back step on the business and sort the admin work for her like accounts, bills, customer queries, etc. Just because it's a bridal business it doesn't mean that all the jobs involved with it are girly.
Hope this helps.

I would help her and not be too concerned about what anyone thought, and its a way to support your wife's business, besides saving money by not hiring an employee to do what you are doing and for free.

95% of new businesses fold within 6 months from the day they opened.

Poor management of resources and poor planning are usually the two biggest downfalls for new business owners.

YOU SHOULD DO WHAT YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH BUT ALSO BE THERE FOR YOUR WIFE .TELL HER HOW YOU FEEL YOU COULD STILL GIVE HER YOUR IMPUT AND DO THE ACCOUNTS SIDE OF THE BUSINESS BUT IF YOU HAVE NEVER WORKED WITH THE PUBLIC BEFORE YOU MIGHT FIND THAT YOU LOVE IT CAUSE EVERYDAY WILL BE DIFFERENT AND EVERY CUSTOMER WILL BE A CHALLENGE AND THAT'S WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT CUSTOMER SATISFACTION WHICH WILL GIVE YOUR BUSINESS A GOOD NAME

I think you can help her in other aspects of the business such as helping her with advertising, decorating, setting up, tearing down, etc.

It's your own insecurity that's making you feel like that. What's the matter with you? Are you afraid that others might see you as effeminate? Be a real man and shrug off any negative comments/remarks.

Do what you feel is right. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a guy working in a feminine industry.
