first battles took place the morning of April 19, 1775 in the towns of Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts

King George scoffed at the Continental Congress. The Congress sent him a petition (the Olive Branch Petition) listing their grievances. Rather than heeding their complaints, George sent additional troops to America to put down the rebellion.

Logic and reason compel us (the U.S.) to cast off British rule and declare our independence.
