I mean he hardly plays 1st base. All he does is hits all year, doesn't really play 1st that much. What's everyone's thoughts on this?

I cannot believe that anyone would say that it is a good thing that he is on there. This should be a reward to those that excel in THEIR position. Not a reward for an offensive only star.

The all-star game is in San Francisco this year and they will play the game without a DH. Therefore, any American League DH has to be voted in at a position and Ortiz is a first baseman. The fans get to pick between Ortiz 323-11-42 or Morneau 273-18-50. The other option would be to write in the name of Kevin Youkilis 338-8-33. Any of the three would be a good choice and you can't remove Ortiz because he is a DH this year, this is the rule established by MLB.

Of course he should. Because the All-Star game is being played in an NL Park (San Francisco), there is no DH spot. AL DH's have to go on the ballot under what position they WOULD play, and since Ortiz has played 1st, its only fair he be included. The only reason for arguing against this is that it all but eliminates teammate Kevin Youkilis' chances of being voted in by the fans despite his breakout season. However, the Red Sox are asking the MLB to include Youk on the players' ballot in place of Ortiz (who is completely in favor of this move)

As a first baseman, absolutely NOT. It takes away from someone who would earn the spot as a great 2-way player.
But he should be on. Look, its been 30+ years already. Just add a DH group to the vote. If the game is an an NL park, than he can pinch hit; if its an AL park he can start. Same goes for the NL. Give them a DH slot every year too. IOr let the winner & runner up in the Homerun Derby start as DH. Who cares?, its the AllStar game, not game 7 of the series.

No, he's a fat peice of **** that does nothing and gets his fat *** off the bench 4 times a game to go hit. Kevin Youkilis is way more deserving this season. Ortiz is having a terrible season thus far and he has no right taking away Youkilis' opportunity to make an all-star game. Plus youkilis is the one who actually plays the position.

i feel who cares if he plays 1st once a season. the American league needs players on the field for the All Star game that will win and get Home Field in the World Series. sense the game is in a National league park and there is no DH. Ortiz will have to settle for 1st and belt the ball further then the Juice head Bonds could ever do in his Own home park,

Ortiz is good but I think 1st base should be occupied by Justin Morneau (MIN) he has yet to miss a game this season and if hes not playing 1st he's DH. Plus he was AL MVP last year!!

David Ortiz doesn't deserve to be a 1st baseman. He almost never plays there, plus he's just there to hit HRs. But he is REALLY GOOD.

The Red Sox are actually considering substituting David Ortiz for Kevin Youkillis on the All-Star 1B ballot. Read here:

It's a game where the fans vote for players, so he should be on the ballot where fans can give him their vote. I know he rarely plays first, but I've got no problem with his inclusion.
