I want to write a story or a novel with a organised crime but I am not sure where to start or how to start it as I have found there are very few of similar style to that of mine. I have always loved writing and I do not think I am that. Until now I have never had a problem writing about most subjects but I do not know where to begin. Any useful tips or websites to help me with my writing?

With books about organized crime, a first person perspective is always engaging. It need not always be a direct first person. An example of indirect first person would be an interview, or simply idle chat. Perhaps the person from whose perspective you are writing has gone to prison, and he is being analyzed as part of a study, etc. Also, as hinted before, try to write from a historical perspective. The "in medias res" method is generally very confusing for a topic such as this because it requires exceptional complexity. I should recommend that you begin at the end thence telling the story from the beginning. The one-sentence first paragraph is always an effective hook. KEEP IT SHORT AND PUNCHY.

The most important qualification for a writer is observation.Observe keenly your surroundings and crime reports in news papers,TV channels etc.You will get the plot. You have to develop the plot only.Writers take the observations and incidents and by changing the place, persons and names the story is created.Develop your power of observation first, you will not be required to ask the question in future.

Watch the Godfather and the Sopranos for good ideas. You could also brush up on your History of America in the 1920s through the 1940s, when organized crime was at its most prevalent.

Do a writers course - plenty of authors run them. Alternatively, join a writers group. You'll meet other people also tackling this issue. You will thenwork out what you need to do for your story.
