all suggestions i read here are good, depends on your age and where you live too,,
also,, many places have open stage nights,, sometimes you'll get the fortune of fate and meet cool people,, sometimes the cruelty of fate and meet ,,,,,, thin, ego laiden users,,
all in all,, good stuff to know,,
ive come to find its so much better to play w/ folks i like rather than the ones that are "good"
plus, you can get inexpensive multi-track recorders these days for your own thoughts

Here in Vancouver we have a newspaper that specializes in Entertainment and there are dozens of classified ads of musicians seeking other musicians to start musical projects. I assume that every large city will have a newspaper like this (or something similar) - even a mainstream newspaper might have some classifieds like this.

I started my last band just sitting around the table in the staff room (I'm a teacher). A couple of colleagues and I were playing cards as we had for several months and none of us knew that all three of us were also amateur musicians. When conversation turned to music and one of us said, 'I used to be in a band', and then the other two of us said 'really, me too'.

It turned out really well. I play bass and a little guitar, B plays piano, sings and writes songs and R plays drums. We had a very fun little rock trio going.

You never know who is a player out there and there are a lot more than you might think. Keep trying you'll find someone to play with.

Put out a VERY specific ad in a local paper that is read by musicians, and be patient. A friend of mine wanted to put a band together in 2 months. It took him a year, but he's got a great band now!

Ask around at your local music store. This is how I got into my bands, meeting them at the local music stores and at college. Make up a flier and post it at your local high school or college. Also, Guitar Center's web site has a local musician finder. Or you can always put an ad in the local paper.

Put up ads in places where musicians would see it... like stores that sell guitars and that type stuff... Local shows.... You can try salvaging parts of previously broken up local bands... Myspace... or you could go to the newspaper...

Try putting up ads all over town for anyone who has talent. If you find the right people, you have yourself a band.

POST: a paper somewhere where muscicians go in your town. Such as a music store, or even common places.

SHOW: What you want the band to represent, or be like.

DETAIL: Detail what types of instruments/what keys they need to hit to be in the band. Such as singing certian notes, or certian instruments, etc.

POST: BULLETINS ON YOUR MYSPACE/FACEBOOK, ETC. SAYING BAND MEMBERS NEEDED. ASK YOUR FRIENDS
