Lets admit it. Our involvement in Iraq is about oil and our national interest as it relates to oil. We have done the same thing countless times elsewhere as well. I am American and I love my country. The problem is that SO MANY other countries just hate us today, for whatever reason. It just seems to me that when the general concencus says you are wrong, you are likely wrong. My impression is that we stick our noses in other peoples business with a "forked tongue".

I think sometimes it can and we have to take care to make sure it doesn't.

Many Americans feel that way, and most of the regular citizens around the world as well.
This war is not to free anyone from tyranny, It is to spread the sphere of influence of the U.S, and to safeguard access to OIL. Remember, Bush and the boys had to lie to Americans about Weapons of mass destruction so that they would have some type of "acceptable" reason to invade in the first place.
I do not believe that world opinion blames the average American, rather the Interest groups led by G.W.and Cheney.

"Helpful intervention" by the US is more often than not a question of US business interests, and this goes back a long way. For example, Fidel Castro didn't even label himself a Communist when he first became the leader of Cuba. In fact, the US supported his overthrow of Batista. That changed, however, when Castro nationalized the sugar factories, most of which were owned by US companies. The US then saw fit to try to overthrow Castro, though of course, we know the attempt wasn't successful. Our "helpful intervention" in Iraq is just another chapter in the same story.

Are you 100% cconvinced that it hasn't always been "self serving interference" disguised as "helpful intervention"? Do you think our government is really that humanitarian that they would shell out billions all over the world if it did not have an ulterior motive?

I'm Canadian, and I hate to say it, but most people I know here feel that way. Sorry!
