I want a life time of friendship ... but first, I'd have to adjust my expectations!

Betrayal is simply that you put them on a pedestal. "You're holding on too tight". You set them up for failure ... once you accept their failures with acheivments, they don't have to betray you anymore. This doesn't mean being a door mate eithor, rather changing perceptions.
