Your thought run along with mine This is my opinion about Snape:
Snape is Snape. He is beyond the sort of simplistic categorization as "good" or "evil", IMHO. I do believe he is not as evil as he appeared at the end of HBP. It would take too much space to really go into this in detail, but consider this:
It is well known that Snape played the double-agent prior to the death of Harry's parents, and there is no reason to believe he wasn't still a double agent on the anti-Voldemort side. Why then did he bind himself to the success of Draco's mission and then actually kill Dumbledore?
My answer: Dumbledore knew that destroying Slytherin's ring had fatally wounded him and Snape knew so too. Therefore he allowed himself to be bound to Dumbledore"s death, a death he knew was imminent and against which he knew Dumbeldore had taken precautions to ensure that his death would not derail the anti-Voldemort movement.
Now, on the other hand, if Snape has turned coats; why did he not kill Harry* or disable him and take him helpless to Voldemort? JKR made it clear that Harry is no match for Snape as a wizard (yet). If you look at Snapes "taunts" at Harry and put them into anyone else's mouth, they're very good advice on what Harry needs yet to learn to fight strong adult wizards on anything like equal terms.
My answer is that Dumbledore at some point shortly after Harry was orphaned made Snape take an unbreakable vow to protect Harry. This fits in perfectly with Snape's actions toward Harry in the books thus far. Yes, Snape is a mean SOB to Harry, but that is Snape's personality, and he didn't vow to be nice to Harry after all.
My conclusion is that in Book Seven, Snape will act covertly and eventually overtly to aid Harry, that he will likely live, and that Harry will be just as in the dark over Snape's motivations as when Harry entered Hogwarts. (BTW, the above is why I don't think Harry will die. If I'm right, then Snape dies too if Harry dies, and Snape is the ultimate survivor).
*My reading of the prophecy is that there is no requirement that either has to directly kill the other, just that one no longer lives, so I think Snape certainly could have killed Harry and talked his way out of it afterwards

I really, really don't want to believe that Snape is evil either. I think (hope?) that he killed DD because DD wanted him to. A really awesome website to check out is .........
dumbledoreisnotdead.com ......gives a lot of supporting facts to Snape not being as evil as we feel right now.
I just re-read 1 thru 6 to get ready for 7....It is amazing to see how much I forgot! I definitely think that there will be some connection between Harry and Lily or Petunia. In EVERY book, at least once or twice, they make reference to the fact that Harry has Lily's eyes AND I read somewhere that JK has said that this is a key point.

Dumbledore does not have a horcrux. He is dead and is not coming back. The writer has said this NUMEROUS times. He is DEAD. Also, if he were still alive, would his portrait have appeared behind the headmaster's desk with all the other former heads? I don't think so. As for Snape being a good guy, I'm still reserving judgement.

Sorry either Dumbledore is not really dead or Snape is EVIL it's one or the other no way around it. If Snape actually did kill Dumbledore then it was because of the unbreakable vow and he is really on Voldemorts side and he is as Evil as I have always thought him to be. If Dumbledores death was staged to bring Voldemort out of hiding then Snape might be good but I'm not really holding my breath on that one.

Dumbles is dead. Dumbles was good, therefore he would not make something like a Horcrux. Remember, he won't even allow it mentioned in Hogwarts.
Jo has confirmed that Dumbles is truly dead. She also established that once someone dies in the wizarding world, they cannot be brought back to life.
I think the death of Dumbledore was planned, and Dumbledore’s “Severus, please” was asking Snape to kill him. Snape is a spy of the order.

I agree with you about Snape.... I think although he's a jerk he is still a good guy....however the problem is the good guys do not know that..... The Order and Harry will not forgive him because they do not understand what Snape was doing so therefore Snape is probably done for.... The death eaters will kill him if he is not on their side and the Order will kill him because of Dumbledore.......Such a shame he was my favorite character

That's preposterous. DD would never plead, but I think he's going to come back in the next book. He's down, but not out yet. And where was his pet during this time? I think he's going to be back. Just you wait.
