I'm a Vac Tech. They both have so many problems; It's kind of a toss. You're talking about two of the most over priced vacuums on the market. The best vacuum on the market right now is the Riccar 8955. Extremely powerful, cleans really well, very durable. It has a 5 year warranty and 5 year service plan that covers the belt and filters. You are guaranteed a vac for that long and I've seen them last over 25 years.

Dyson definitely! I bought one after problems with not one, but two Orecks.

BTW - you can get Dysons at Bed Bath & Beyond with your 20% off coupon.

The Rainbows are good, but it's a pain to keep the water from spilling each time you move it.

IMO, the best type of vacuum is a Central Vac as all the dust and small particulates are exhausted outside the home.

To address this problem with a portable vacuum manufacturers make use of HEPA filters. But beware as there is no standard for these filters (as far as I know) they may or may not be effective.

Friends of mine really like the dyson but feel that the quality of the small plastic parts (and there's lots of them) appear cheap and prone to breakage.

Many prefer the more expensive Miele vacuums.

Another high quality unit is the Rainbow vac that uses water as the filter. These are expensive vacuums but very highly regarded.

I LOVE my Dyson. It initially comes with a free 2 year guarantee & you can purchase extended cover at a discount if you buy it straight away. The customer service is excellent. I would highly recommend Dyson.

Please stay away from Dyson and Oreck, and if you want a VERY dependable vacuum with very good warrantys,go with a Riccar. You will be very happy.
