Yes, but nearly as much as there would be if they did not practice swift cremation. This makes it pretty hard to become a haunting ghost. Some however are strong enough or escaped swift cremation. Swift cremation prevents the spirit from making attachments to places or people after death by swiftly severing the link they had with the material world through their body.Another reason there are fewer deceased people wandering about is that there is less ignorance about the afterlife and less material attachments in Indian culture.

Oh yes, many Indians believe in ghosts and reincarnations. There are many villages in India that practice witchcraft, some kind of horror stuff - as a tourist you may consider visiting a place called Purana Qila (Old Fort) in Delhi - it is supposed to be haunted at night. Another place is a building called Jantar Mantar in Goregaon, Bombay.

It is a very long time ago when I was in a crunch, just by chance I happened to visit Shrine of Khawaja Moinud Din Chishty in Ajmer and wished for some thing. I do not know how it happened and got involved again in my day to day life and achieved every thing I wished for in my life over the years with hard work, raising my family to the best I could do.Now my children well settled and have made me grand-dad. All this time I had one thing in mind to visit that place once in my life time for thanks giving but time never spared me; job, university going children , their marriages, etc. At last I found time and feeling a bit eased up I travelled all the way to Ajmer from USA last month.
My wish was granted and I offered thanks giving prayer in the mosque when I stepped in. I was carrying camera with flash gun. I was taking shots every where in Dargah vicinity. It was all OK, no one objected to this when I went inside around the grave underneath the main tomb building I was asked by one of the caretakers not to use my camera inside. I said OK to him and handed over a ten rupee note, he was alright and then took few more shots using my flashgun from different angles. He came to me again, I gave him extra 10 rupees and said alright, alright. Now when I have returned home I got all the films devolped and I am shocked to see a smoke like image just under the tomb watching me in front. This image is definitely not the reflection of the flash, I well remember there was no picture frames except some ordinary frames with some inscriptions that we are the legal custodians of this dargah, etc, etc. nothing important. Eversince I am in a puzzle, what these images are which I did not notice when I was taking photographs. Now I remember, in that crowd around the grave there were about 8/9 persons just standing still, not moving just winking eyelids, and they were all in pure brilliant white kurta-pajamas with muslim white caps with similar shape and sizes, there complexion was very fair whereas in that part of Rajistan normally change into black or brown because of heat.
What is this? I cannot solve it, the smoked bulky mankind figure hanging imbalance without any support, those 8/9 people not moving at all, in fine white spotless dresses and white caps, just watching me to this end where I was offering fateh and then taking phtographs. Should I believe this place is haunted, if so, are good ghosts, or should I say they are there to fulfill your wishes. I never believe those things in my life, yet it comes to my mind some times, perhaps it was the place I visited that is why I am successful. Never mind, whatever it was, it was my wish to visit and offer Jumma Prayer at this shrine and visit Taj Mahal in full moon, my wishes granted and now I am fulfilled. But this doubt is carving my mind, do ghosts exhist? If not, then what are these images which I never noticed when I was taking photographs?

There is a story about a castle that was built on a lake because the prince's father wouldn't let him have a party in the main castle on the shore. After the lake castle was completed, the prince threw a huge party with acrobats and tightrope-walkers and musicians. One of the tightrope-walkers was hired to walk back and forth across the lake on a rope, but she couldn't swim. She fell of the rope in the middle of the lake and drowned. It is said that her ghost can still be seen walking across the lake at night.
