XP Pro without updates may be the fastest at first, but you don't want to hang out on the internet like this.
It's guaranteed to get crapware, viruses and the rest in a matter of minutes.
Install XP with the latest updates and the programs you absolutely need.
Also, make sure you have at least 512MB of RAM for a better Windows XPerience. (pun intended)

XP Pro without any security updates, if possible, because each update and service pack slows and bogs your system down.
I have used XP Home, Media center, Pro, and Vista, and the faster is XP Pro, even with its updates.
