I had a friend who's amniotic fluid was low but she had no problems at all and the babies (she had twins) came out healthy and fine. Sometimes a low fluid can mean a chance of some health issues but your doctor will just keep a watchful eye on it everything will be just fine. Keep a positive attitude and fill yourself with joy that you are going to have a baby........your feelings will be felt by your baby cause you share a special bond right now. you know how when you are super happy how sometimes you feel it in other parts of your body well.........I believe that a mother's feelings can be shared by their unborn child so may love and light bless you during this time of nervousness..........I'll offer a prayer for you too.

OH YES SWEETIE, EVERYTHING IS FINE. No need to panic. If your fluid becomes too low then they may induce you. At this point in your pregnancy you are far enough along where induction is an option if you or the baby are in any danger. Oligohydramnios is often the result of a tear or rupture in the amniotic membrane, causing it to leak amniotic fluid and thus lower the level of fluid still surrounding the baby. If the low fluid levels are caused by a membrane leak, there is an increased risk of infection to both mother and baby. For baby, too little fluid can mean a tangle with an umbilical cord; without fluid to float in, a baby may sit on the cord and cut off its own blood supply. You are also vulnerable to bacteria that enter the uterus through the tear causing the fluid leak. Low fluid levels can also complicate baby's delivery. With low levels, there is an increased risk of fetal heart decelerations in labor. Often, if baby is nearing full term, obstetricians will induce labor. If the baby is allowed to remain in the uterus, especially past term, the risks are even greater. While in labor, a doctor may replace the lost fluid by infusing warm saline into the uterus. This decreases the risk of fetal distress. However, oligohydramnios can be the sign of more serious problems, such as a baby with kidney disease. A large part of the amniotic fluid is comprised of baby's urine and if low levels are not caused by a membrane leak, it means not enough amniotic fluid is being manufactured by the baby's kidneys or that it is not being released by the bladder and urethra. It could be that baby is not making much fluid or there is an obstruction in the urinary tract. According to the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, other more serious causes can include a congenital heart defect, or uterine placenta that is not supplying enough blood to baby.
Either way, it is a condition that can be lethal, because Baby needs adequate fluid to develop lungs. Without enough amniotic fluid, Baby can't make the transfer from umbilical cord to breathing air. The lungs are in their greatest stage of development between 16 and 25 weeks, but each day they have to mature in adequate amniotic fluid means greater function. Once oligohydramnios is diagnosed, decisions about the baby's delivery need to be made. Often, this means weighing the risks of inducing labor versus leaving the baby in-utero until it reaches greater maturity. There is some variance in the medical community about when is "long enough," but typically, if a baby has too little fluid near term, "it is reasonable to consider that baby will do okay if born." Im not trying to scare you but you should be aware of the risks of low fluid. Be sure to voice your mind to your doctor. This is your childs life.

The volume of amniotic fluid is a little on the low side, but can have many reasons, size of the baby, elasticity of the uterus and a couple of other factors. It is worth keeping an eye on, but at 37 weeks shouldn't cause major concern, or be a big problem.

Amniotic fluid...

It's still in normal range, don't worry too much. Your doctor is aware of it so I'm sure he will keep a very close eye on it. You're far enough along now that they can deliver the baby at any time and he's developed enough to be healthy. If there were any danger to your baby, the doc wouldn't be so casual about it.
Everything will be fine!

Since you are so far along, I would worry about it. If it gets too low, your doctor will probably just induce you. And that would be ok since you are technically at term. I'm not sure what causes low amniotic fluid, but it shouldn't be anything to be concerned about at this stage in your pregnancy.

I had the same problem. I had to go twice a week for a stress test or non stress test. forget what it's called. But they monitor the baby for about 45mins. They might induce you if it gets lower or if the baby isn't moving enough. I never had to have that, my son came a week early and everything was fine. so it's nothing serious. they will keep an eye on you and your baby. good luck with your little one that's coming soon

well, I'm sure they would have told you to drink lots of fluids as any pregnant woman should. and if they are going to keep an eye on you, then you should be fine. they should've told you why it's low, but sometimes they just won't know. but I think everything will be just fine, especially if it's still in the "normal" range. if it gets too low, they will tell you the options, it will probly mean they will induce you earlier than your due date. but they know what's best for you and your baby. good luck

My amniotic fluid was low and they ended up inducing me. If it gets too low the baby may have problems getting enough oxygen. They will monitor you and will induce if they need to. Good luck.

It's amniotic fluid. Sometimes it gets low during the end of your pregnancy. You are almost full term so I wouldn't worry. Worst case senerio is they will induce you soon if it gets to low.
