What did Saddam Hussein ever do to you and America?

It struck me that the loss of American lives should at least be the result of an attack or threat to America and Americans....

If you have swallowed the 'we are over there so that they are not fighting over here....', then, well you are a lost cause to humanity.

So many can not even muster enough courage to answer this question with a modicum of honesty...

As China, India and others come into the ascendancy, I really see this country struggle with the ill educated, ill informed and arrogant masses that the education system is spouting every year.

Conservative woman asks what did Hitler do to us. Well, if sending U boats to sink US merchant marine ships could be considered doing something to us that is what he did.

In Kuwait we were invited by the government of Kuwait and the UN to step in and send Saddam back into his own country. That is exactly what we did and with the help of a large coelition of other countries. This mess over there is largely unilateral with only a little help from a hand full of other countries some of which are already pulling out or have done so. The situation this time is quite different from before.

The terrorists ranks have increased over there because we are over there. The radical Muslims see us as infidels on their sacred land and want us off. They are prepared to fight to the last man to kick us out.

People point out that Saddam threatened Dubya's daddy. Well, two bit dictators threaten all the time. Since they do not have the power or means to carry out those threats, like Saddam, they are seldom taken seriously. Yes, Saddam Hussein was an evil dictator but he was such in his own country. There was a modicum of stability in the Middle East while he was in power. Where has the calm gone? Iraq is in a civil war. Iran is spouting off and treatening Israel again, Syria and Lebanon are still all messed up. Egypt doesn't seem interested in doing much nor does Jordan and they are the two best allies we have outside of Israel when we look at the Middle East. Turkey might be considered an ally but lately they seem to be drifting in a different direction. UAE, Qtar and other states in the region are kind of, sort of friendly with us because they have the oil and want to sell it to us otherwise they would have nothing to do with us. And Saudi Arabia is only a friend in name only. Most of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudis.

I CANNOT assure you I am unbiased (in fact, I can assure you I am!), but I can try to be honest.

Reading the Iraq War resolution, I think there was ample reason to go to war. Among other things, there were numerous and flagrant violations of a cease-fire:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2002/10/20021002-2.html

That does not mean that Iraq attacked us, or that the decision to go to war was the right one. It just means that I believe we had ample justification, and in fact given the facts at the time NOT going in could have been seen as carrying greater risks.

What I really think you are asking is whether the idea of "preemptive war" is a good idea or not. I don't have a simple answer. On the one hand, I don't think we should give any enemy "one free shot" before responding. On the other, it's clear that public support for the war would have been much less had we known what we apparently know now about Iraq's WMDs, or apparent lack of them.

I think the nuclear genie - the one we're really worried about - is hard to keep in the bottle. The fear of an attack, or of a rogue state holding the world hostage by the credible threat of one - argues for more preemptive action. But the backlash - starting wars on less than solid evidence, being seen as the aggressors, with all that goes with it ("Bush is Hitler," etc.) caries its own risks. Could be that doing nothing (or not enough) doesn't protect us, and that doing too much will provoke the hatred and destruction we fear.

I have no easy answers. I think that sooner or later we'll be hit, no matter what we do. We have to protect ourselves and tread carefully.

I realize many think the threat is overblown and advanced only to cover other reasons (Israel, oil, etc.), and I have been duped. Maybe, maybe not. Like I said, I'm not unbiased. All the best.

I agree with you entirely. Saddam Hussein didn't do anything to America. George Bush lied to us and use the tragedy of 9-11 to invade Iraq with the inconclusive assumption that he had weapons of mass destruction. We all know the REAL basis behind the war. **coughOILcough**. And we all know that George Bush is shitting in his diaper now that the war has stretched on many more years than he was expecting. Like I said, he invaded Iraq when America was still hurting from 9-11 and the people were looking for someone, anyone, whether he be affiliated with the terrorist attack or not to point the blame on. After "Mission Accomplished" was declared not even a few months into the war, I find it ironic that everytime I turn on my computer in the morning there's new news about american troops being killed by those sadistic, immoral, lower life forms. You take out one leader... There are a dozen more willing to take his place. It's not JUST about Saddam Hussein, it's the hiearchy of assholes in a country of terrorists. I've been saying it all along... Iraq would make a nice glass parking lot....

What did Hitler do to us? Don't be so lame! We are not in any way able to sustain our country in a vacuum. When he threatened the oil supply to the world by attacking and attempting to control the only sea port in the region he attacked everyone that purchases oil from the Mid-East. He funded terrorists in Palestine that we know of and can prove and we simply could not take the risk that he might arm terrorists that would attack us with either biological or chemical weapons.

What did Hitler ever do to us personally?

Answer that, and you'll have the answer to what good old Hussein did. I'm not huge on the death penalty, but I'm glad that man (and I use the term loosely) is dead.

The Holocaust had NOTHING to do with America or Americans. It was a humanity thing.

It actually has, the international huge theory of united states of america of america is now on a par with Nazi Germany in the late Nineteen Thirties. even regardless of the undeniable fact that in case you examine "What Uncle Sam extremely needs" by utilizing Noam Chomsky you will see that the present administration have extremely in basic terms been escalating an present style in U.S. distant places coverage. It`s no longer as though the Iraq conflict grew to become into the 1st blemish on an in any different case perfect equipment of government.

Saddam Hussein slipped his CIA leash and had to be dealt with appropriately.

All Imperialistic societies need war in order to exist. This was is about money and power, like all the others have been before this one.
