The uncertainty of it. Within the realm of my current life, which may not be perfect but it is comfortable, I have security. That is, I know where my money is coming from, I have a support network of friends and family, and I have a pretty good idea of what tomorrow is going to have in store. The uncertainty of just leaving it all, while tempting, would be too much. Besides, wherever you go - there you are. What you think you are leaving will be right beside you in the form of your own baggage.

What stops me is a sense of obligation. There are people here who depend on me and I would not be able to live with myself if I abandoned them.
On top of that, I like where I am, so I really have no reason to leave it all and go away forever. Most people who run away are running from something rather than to something. Unfortunately, they usually take along whatever it is they are running from.

I would miss my family too much; and then be tortured by my feelings for them and realising that where I went away to is not what I was looking for either.

my family, friends job and bills.... all those lovely things that weigh us down...... who hasn't entertained the dream of just flying away to somewhere exotic and leaving the world behind? Ah, sigh... how wonderful....
